Up until a few years ago my community was anticipating a new biotech research site to be built here. More jobs, more tax base, more investment. Never happened, funding fell through. They seem like they might be one of those "sure things" that sound good up front, but turn out to be less than genuine. But I have to say that the biotech market is a boomer, and if I was going to approach investing in one of those companies, I'd rather do it in a collective way rather than assuming all the risk by myself.
